I'm in bed right now recovering from laser surgery on a torn retina. I noticed to change my vision. Yesterday I called my ophthalmologist and went in. The total cost for that appointment was $0. Now obviously that didn't pay for the testing of the consultation because the testing was $0 and the consult was $0, but I did have to get an appointment with a retinal specialist so they made that call. They made that referral. The referral fee of course was $0. Last night two different retinal specialists called and offered me a slot this morning. Went in for the consult. Obviously, the consult is going to cost money in Canada for the retinal specialist, that cost me $0. The actual procedure was $0. So, elephant in the room. We need to talk about the aftercare. So yes, okay, the aftercare cost $0. Copay's zero dollars. Ow, that hurts. Premiums: zero dollars. There are no premiums for healthcare in Canada. Now of course there is a deductible, obviously that is zero dollars. Even the parking was free. Less than 24 hours later it's done. The Canadian healthcare system isn't perfect, but it's better than your crazy uncle in Florida who watches Fox News thinks it is.
