With more public money from P.E.I. going into private health-care companies, research professor and Canadian Health Coalition member Pat Armstrong tells CBC News: Compass why she thinks it's a bad idea.
Introduction:
PEI, like the rest of Canada, prides itself on having a public healthcare system. But there are cases where private companies are starting to play a bigger role in the delivery of care here. There are private nursing homes now expanding with the help of taxpayer dollars. There's the company Mapled, which has a contract with the PEI government to help provide virtual care. There are also private agency nurses filling shifts in the province. And that all comes as a concern to Pat Armstrong.
