A new MRI is lifted into St. Mary's hospital in Kitchener on Friday. An exterior wall needed to be knocked out to get the machine into the hospital, and the basement underneath was reinforced with steel beams to support the weight of the 8,200-pound magnet. The MRI is a first for St. Mary's, and brings the total number of MRIs in Kitchener-Waterloo to three (there are two at Grand River Hospital). The MRI will be ready for patients on March 27. A a joint campaign with Grand River raised $10 million for the MRI, $7.6 million of which went to St. Mary's MRI.
