A new clinic in South Kitchener that aims to address the region's chronic shortage of family doctors — for a fee.

Phlox Health on Manitou Drive offers many of the same services as a walk-in clinic or family doctor, but charges for each visit.

For $75 a visit, patients can see one of the clinic's two nurse practitioners, who are licensed to diagnose, treat, counsel, prescribe medications, order diagnostic tests, refer to specialists and perform procedures for their patients.

It markets itself as a convenient way to access health care more quickly — for a fee.

“We ensure that you skip long wait times and get the care you need,” says the clinic on its website.

“We are the first private-pay clinic in Kitchener-Waterloo” run by nurse practitioners, said founder Sandra Dudziak.
